I was born and raised in the Wasaga Beach / Collingwood area of Ontario. Throughout my younger years I had a passion for being outdoors and physical activity.

Life changed for me when I was 10 years old and my parents bought their first canoe. I remember it like it was yesterday. We all piled in the car one Saturday morning and made the 2 hour drive up to the Algonquin Outfitters on Oxtongue Lake. That afternoon we were on our way home with a brand new fiberglass Swift Canoe. Little did I know at the time, that this was a moment that would help define my passion for the outdoors.

Throughout High School I busied myself with many different sports including basketball, volleyball, curling and mountain biking.  During my summers I always found myself venturing into the great outdoors of Ontario with friends and family. Nearing the end of High School my good friend and fellow canoeist David Welte and I completed our first backcountry trip together; the Gibson McDonald canoe route. Although this was only a 56km route it provided us with some much needed experience and ignited my passion for the outdoors even more.

Some of my trip highlights have included multiple excursions to Algonquin and Killarney Provincial Parks with my father; two Brent Run experiences through Algonquin Park; bushwhack fishing trips into the Biscotasing and Gogama regions of Ontario; and most recently the completion of the La Cloche Silhouette Trail through Killarney Provincial Park.

Since entering the workforce fulltime in 2004 I have not only learned the importance of time away from your ‘everyday’, but also the value of reconnecting with nature.  As the world begins to move at a faster pace, I take great pleasure in being able to head into the wilderness and take a moment to stop, listen and take it all in.

Through this website I look forward to sharing my quickescapes with others and I hope that our stories inspire others go out and do something.
