An Old Fashioned Quick Escape

So I was bored the other night.  Not only was I bored, but I had a full bottle of bourbon, but alas, no sweet vermouth.  I would normally gravitate toward a delicious Manhattan (bourbon, sweet vermouth and bitters, shaken over ice and served in a Martini Glass) but I was missing the key ingredient of sweet vermouth.  I did what anyone would do in such a dire crisis, I turned to 'The Internet'.  I was looking for creative drinks to make with my aforementioned bottle of bourbon; enter the Old Fashioned.  It had been years since I had made an Old Fashioned so I figured "why not" and mixed one up.  For those adventurous imbibers out there, give this one a shot!

- 1/2 Tablespoon Sugar

- 1oz Hot Water

- Orange Peel

- 1 Dash Angostura Bitters

- 5 Ice Cubes

- 3oz Bourbon

- Maraschino Cherries

-10oz Glass

In a 10oz glass add the sugar and hot water.  Mix thoroughly to make a quick and dirty simple sugar (hint: the water should be clear and no sugar should be visible when you are finished).  Take a few inches of orange peel cut directly from a fresh orange (try to just get the peel without taking any of the orange off).  Muddle your simple sugar solution with the orange peel (muddle is a fancy bartending term for mashing it all together).  Add one dash of Angostura Bitters (most grocery stores will care this type of bitter).  Stir and add the ice cubes to the glass (I have no smart ass comment here; if you can't figure this out...sorry).  Pour 3oz of bourbon over the ice (cheap bourbon or high end, it's up to you to decide).  Finally add a maraschino cherry or two.  Mix carefully and enjoy responsibly!
