Thirsty Thursday! - Holiday Addition

According to the Wikipedia, eggnog was first seen in print in 1775. It sounds accurate to me, but I honestly couldn’t care less. What I do like is this time of year when the holiday drinks come around. Here are some of our favorites:

Rum and Nog:

This holiday creamy egg milky goodness goes well with spiced rum. Some like it with brandy or bourbon, to each their own:

4 parts eggnog

1 (and some) part Spiced Rum

Ground Nutmeg

Cinnamon stick

Serve in a rocks glass over ice. If you’re all fancy like me add some ground nutmeg and cinnamon stick as a garnish

Spiked Hot Chocolate:

Another holiday favorite, use your favorite hot chocolate as a base, in a mug add:

Hot chocolate

1oz Crème de menthe

1.5oz Tia Maria or Frangelico

Candy cane Garnish

Optional: marshmallows

Some people like to add some rum also.

A great hot chocolate base:

Combine all ingredients in saucepan over medium heat until marshmallows are melted and its a rich sugary liquid.

5 cups milk

½ cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ cup cocoa powder

1 cup mini marshmallows

The Bounty Bar Hot Chocolate:

Darren’s fave variation of the spiked hot chocolate. “Why is it called a Bounty Bar Hot Chocolate Darren?”. “Because it tastes like a Bounty Bar Mark…” In a mug:

3 parts Hot Chocolate

1 part bailey’s

2 part Malibu Rum

Bourbon Furnace:

Visit an apple orchard (or grocery store I suppose) and pick up some apple cider.

In a mug combine:

4 parts Hot apple cider

1 ½ parts bourbon.

1 tsp sugar.

Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

The Hot Toddy:

Ah the healing power.

In a mug combine:

4 parts hot water

1 ½ parts Canadian Whiskey (bourbon is nice too)

1 tbsp honey

Slice of lemon

Garnish with a cinnamon stick
